Today, independent studio Cobalt Lane lifted the curtain on Imprinted, a slow-burn psychological thriller about creativity, obsession, and the strange echoes we all leave behind. The game is set to launch on Steam later in 2026.
Imprinted puts players in the studio chair of Vincent Brandt, a talented but jaded audio engineer. Vincent is brought in to restore the lost recordings of Viola Fossati, a mysterious 1970s experimental musician whose story ended far too abruptly. At first, Vincent thinks he’s simply fixing up broken tapes and repairing the audio, but something inside those recordings starts pushing back.
Co-created by composer Filippo Beck Peccoz, whom some may know of his work through the music of Desperados III and Tavern Talk, said about the game:

“The core of our story grew from this idea that human experience gets imprinted upon everything – including sound. Vincent and Viola never share a room, never speak face-to-face, but through these broken tapes they form a strange, intimate connection. This “conversation” sparks Vincent’s creativity to a degree that throws Vincent into a spiral of obsession and loss of control.
Ultimately, Imprinted is a ghost story about creativity.”
Shown completely through a PC desktop, you’ll use different programs to communicate with others and attempt to fix audio files that are sent over to you.
Having played an early version late last year, I can say that the immersion is top-level. Every part of an OS that you would expect is accounted for, and it really feels like you’re using your laptop.

The audio fixing is also more complex than you would expect, with different levels of features implemented as you go through the story; you’ll end up feeling like an audio engineer yourself!
When you couple all this with a weaving and mysterious ghost story, Imprinted is shaping up to be one of the year’s most interesting and original games.
