The long-awaited anime-based Denshattack! Is finally here, and people have been praising it highly for its highly stylised visuals and its incredible skateboard-style mechanics. It’s already one of the biggest hits of the year and one that will certainly end up on many game of the year lists come the end of 2026.
The Jet Set Radio and Tony Hawk games have rightly been called inspirations for the game, and we had many positive things to say about Denshattack! in our review. But the soundtrack to the game has really caught people’s attention, not only for the catchy tunes that perfectly accompany the game’s gameplay but also for the composers involved in its creation.
Every composer involved, including Tee Lopes, Sean Bialo and Andrew One, has brought their own styles to the soundtrack, and it’s pretty wild to see all these names come together on one project. With a guest roster spanning VGM legends and mainstream artists, including Shoji Meguro & Lotus Juice (Persona), Richard Jacques (Jet Set Radio), Takenobu Mitsuyoshi (SEGA), Harumi Fujita (Capcom), Ryo Nagamatsu (Mario Kart, Splatoon), Kohta Takahashi (Ace Combat), 2 Mello, MIYACHI, Ironmouse, and The DO DO DO’s, the final result is a genre-bending mix of breakbeat, hip-hop, punk, J-Pop, and anime, perfectly matching the game’s colourful universe and one-of-a-kind fun.
Thankfully, French record label Kid Katana has just brought the soundtrack to all major streaming services, including Spotify, YouTube Music, and Apple Music, plus many more, so you can enjoy the beats wherever you are.
If you haven’t heard of Kid Katana before, they specialise in video game music, connecting composers with fans through premium physical and digital soundtrack releases. Its catalogue includes Streets of Rage 4, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, Lost Records: Bloom & Rage, Jusant, V Rising, and the NINJA GAIDEN Collection, with contributions from Mike Patton, Wu-Tang Clan, Yuzo Koshiro, Gareth Coker, Yuka Kitamura, Mick Gordon and more. Looking through their website, they certainly have created some gorgeous-looking vinyls which would be pride of place in many collections.
With Kid Katana looking after the soundtrack, it is in a prime position for a physical edition – so fingers crossed that we might see this on a vinyl or CD in the very near future; preservation is so important, and this soundtrack absolutely deserves it.
Whichever way you decide to listen to the Denshattack! OST, one thing is clear: it is a stone-cold classic and one we all shall be listening to for many years to come.
