Welcome to the Cherwell Gymnastics Club. We are based at the Cherwell School Oxford and run recreational classes for artistic gymnastics for children twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We also have a development squad that train Mondays and Thursdays working towards county and regional competitions. Our main intention is that the children should enjoy gymnastics, and that they should do so in a safe environment. We hope that they will also improve their general fitness, and acquire or improve such skills as coordination, concentration, memory, self-reliance, sharing, and teamwork, as well as learning to listen, obey instructions, and respect others. The gymnasts are put into groups with others of similar ability and work towards gaining proficiency badges in the British Gymnastics Association award schemes, which provides a progression starting at 7 through to 1. Children also get the opportunity to work on four pieces of apparatus these being the vault, asymmetric bars, balance beam and floor. We also work towards a club competition which is held in the Summer term each year. All our coaches are British Gymnastics qualified and children are tested each term to enable them to progress steadily. The club is affiliated to British Gymnastics, and is fully insured. |
